(1986) I attended catholic school starting from ages 5 through 18. I was othered from the start, since I was the only one that was not catholic or white. This photo, taken by my mother, is an example of my way of dealing with it. This was a play around Jesus' life from when I was in 3rd grade. All the kids eagerly raised their hands wanting to play a certain role—from Jesus to Mary to an apostle. I raised my hand and told the teacher I wanted to be Judas, she agreed.
